Inspirational Books The beautiful village of Newton
Ferrers features very prominently in
Soft Words Butter No Parsnips,
and in particular the little 18th century fisherman’s cottage on
the banks of the River Yealm known as ‘Glen Cot’.
The story started in about 1925
when John and Winifred Poole took up residence, and continued
until around 1961 when they regretfully left Devon. Since that time, the village
has become a tourist magnet, and grown in size to accommodate
the people who have flocked to live there.
